Description:
Vine weevils and their grubs are common pests both outdoors and in the greenhouse. They are large and nearly black and their grubs are wrinkled, rolled up and a cream colour. The adults leave a permanent scar when they bite crescent-shaped sections out of the foliage while the grubs eat roots, corms and tubers. When the plant begins to droop it is often too late because inspection will show that there are no roots left.
This native nematode attacks the larvae of the vine weevil underground, killing it within a few days by infecting with bacteria. Tiny parasitic eel worms that occur naturally, the nematodes are mixed and supplied in a carrier medium which can be stored in a fridge until the given date.
A minimum soil temperature of 5C (41F) is needed so crops can be treated, indoors and outside, any time that it is warm enough. Treats up to 12sq metres or about 160 pots.
Directions for use (from the pack)
Follow the simple 2-step application
1. Take half of the pack contents and add to an 8 litre (2 gallon) watering can. Fill the can with clean water and mix thoroughly.
2. Apply immediately, using a coarse rose on the can, to half the soil area to be treated. Then apply an equal amount of water to the treated area. This pack fills 2 watering cans and treats up to 12m2 (14sq. yards).
For best results:
• Apply between March and November, when vine weevil larvae are present and soil temperatures are above 5C (41F) in the daytime.
• Soil or compost must be moist before and for at least two weeks after application.
• Avoid applications in bright sunlight.
• Use entire packet at one time and do not store made up solution.
• Vine weevil larvae are killed within two to three weeks.
