Description:
The grubs of the chafer beetle can ruin a lawn leaving yellow patches and grass with little or no root, that is slow to grow and easily pulled out. Adult chafer beetles are a brown/black colour and move to the surface of the soil in late spring to mate and lay their eggs. The grubs are fat and curved. On hatching the chafer grub then feeds on the grass roots and roots of herbaceous plants through the summer and into autumn. It is worth examining a few inches beneath the lawn’s surface for their presence as it is often too late when the roots are gone and the damage has been done. Beetles and grubs are most active when near the surface and the soil temperature is above 12C.
The Nematodes are tiny parasitic eel worms that will destroy the grubs. They are supplied in a carrier medium and must be stored and used as directed for the treatment to be successful.
Directions for use (from the pack)
For best results:
• One application will provide control for chafer grubs already present in the soil.
• Use during August and September, but no later as grubs move out of reach, deeper in the soil.
• Cut grass prior to application.
• Ground must be moist before application.
• It is very important to water treated areas immediately after application or apply during rain, and keep the soil moist for at least 2 weeks.
• Avoid applications in bright sunlight, apply during evenings or dull conditions.
• Use entire packet at one time and do not store made up solution.
• Chafer grubs are killed within two to three weeks.
Follow the simple 2-step application
1. Take one eighth of the pack contents and add to an 8 litre (2 gallon) watering can. Fill the can with clean water and mix thoroughly.
2. Apply immediately, using a coarse rose on the can, to an eighth of the soil area to be
treated. Then water again thoroughly using twice the amount of water just used to make sure the nematodes are washed through the grass thatch and into the soil.
This pack fills 8 watering cans and treats up to 100m2 (125 sq. yards).
