Cold Frame

Description:

This is a quality oak cold frame for over-wintering, raising seedlings and cuttings, hardening off and protecting young and non-hardy plants from harsh weather. The solid oak frame of FSC certified hardwood, has been kiln dried in a controlled environment to prevent cracking and it should give long lasting service.

With a generous ground area and high sides it will be ideal if your garden is too small for a full size greenhouse and, if sited well, it will act just as efficiently as an unheated greenhouse.

The UV-stabilised, twin-walled polycarbonate shatter-proof glazing provides maximum light with insulation through the winter with protection from frost in the early spring, while in the summer months the light is diffused to reduce the risk of scorching.

It measures 40cm at the back, to give cover for taller specimens, sloping down to 30cm at the front for seed trays and for hardening off smaller plants preparing them for planting out. The hinged lid has adjustable height settings for variable ventilation and to make watering and tending the plants as easy as possible. Fittings are black and rust-resistant.

Requires home assembly (all you need is a screwdriver) and is best sited sheltered from winds and where it will receive the most sunlight. Placed on gravel or mulch will give added insulation from ground frost.
