For use with houseplants or in the garden, the watering spike is pushed into the soil so that no water is lost in evaporation and to take it directly to the roots where it is needed most. In addition, it is temperature sensitive, cleverly adjusting the drip rate to match the weather, so that the warmer it is, the faster it drips. When it grows cooler then the slower the drip rate.
